If there's an election the Tories will win AFAIK, due to Labour being so far up its own arsehole that it won't have a chance. And you're assuming the public are better informed now, which is not necessarily the case.

Not to mention that even if they were better informed, that's not necessarily going to lead them to vote differently.  That presupposes that they are rational actors who would come to the same conclusion as us if only they had all the information; it's more likely that a large proportion would double-down on their irrational beliefs in the face of contradicting evidence in preference to changing them.

IT'S HAPPENING

For the first time in my life, the prospect of a united Ireland is not only credible but inevitable

That's a great question, and it deserves a detailed answer but meanwhile

Blair was the reason they got popular in my lifetime, he turned out to be a deeply unpopular person, mainly over Iraq. Besides that, socialism has become less and less fashionable over here, notwithstanding our love affair with the NHS (RIP).

London votes Labour, the bigger cities still do. Then there's what happened with teh Scots, where Labour took it forgranted that they'd vote Lab because there was no way they'd vote Tory.

Drive to replace UK-EU trade links with closer ties to Commonwealth

Quote
Britain would harmonise regulations with its former colonies rather than the European Union under new proposals for trade integration that critics have dubbed Empire 2.0.

<snip, wot>

Several senior Conservatives, led by trade minister Liam Fox, have heralded the potential for new trade agreements with Commonwealth countries as a way to replace lost European markets when Britain leaves the EU.

"Obviously UK trading relations are now up for grabs," Lord Marland told the Guardian. "What easier and better place [is there] to trade than with countries who have shared associations for many years, where you speak the same language, where you have the same basic rule of law? That's why we need to come up with an accord that underlines that."
"Brexit is going to fuck us over."
"Yeah."
"I know! We can just wind the clock back 100 years. That'll work!"

This doesn't surprise me, but I bet a lot of Poms still don't get it.

Red lines and red rags: Europeans unimpressed by Britain's tough talk on Brexit

Quote
The British government can turn its attention to the main Brexit negotiations, now that the UK parliament has voted to allow the prime minister to begin the process. But several years of tense discussions lie ahead - and many British politicians seem to have spent the past few months doing their best to make them as awkward as possible.

My colleagues and I took to the road, holding private seminars with key "movers and shakers" in Berlin - the capital of Europe's paymaster - and in Bratislava, home to some of the UK's erstwhile allies in, as Donald Rumsfeld put it, "New Europe". The aim was to understand some of the key concerns and priorities in those countries ahead of the negotiations. We spoke to senior officials and governmental advisers - the people who will be shaping their countries' stances on Brexit.

Short version: the Dad's Army crew aren't going to know what hit them.

I will lol forever if brexit somehow leads to Scottish Independence and Irish unification, essentially killing the united kingdom. Then Britain will reclaim the title for "best job of shooting themselves in they own dick" from the US after holding it so briefly last year.

I'm also going to go out on a limb and say that the individual Commonwealth countries don't represent as good of an economic market as the EU.

"Hey guys two party deals are way better!"

Inadvertently Trump has made me come to hate the word "deals" and associate it with sleazyness and stupidity.

Defo. It's a no-brainer. And an isolated UK probably doesn't make as good an option for Commonwealth countries as trading with the EU. Unless the UK is so desperate that it whores itself shamelessly.
