Another school shooting in California.

http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-belmont-high-shooting-20180201-story.html

Middle school, two 15 yo shooting victims.

gun wielder was a girl.

The middle school is 92% latino.  I'm looking forward to all the bullshit racist tsunami.

It's okay. We have a great innovative solution.

My wife's school has adopted a "fight back" strategy and is contemplating arming teachers with bags of golf balls.

I really, really wish I was joking.

A shooting at a Los Angeles middle school classroom Thursday that left one boy in critical condition, injured four others and had panicked parents in tears was an accident, police said.

"She was like, 'I didn't mean to. I had the gun in my backpack and I didn't know it was loaded and my backpack fell and the gun went off,'" he said.

how does a gun going off one time injure 5 people

I dunno...

The young man had a non-lethal head injury, a girl was hit in the wrist and the others were grazed.  So like did it ricochet all over?

Maybe the ammunition was like MIRVs.

What I'm wondering is what is a 11 or 12 yo doing carrying a loaded gun in her backpack to school.
Or maybe more to the point, how did she get her hands on one in the first place.

Should be fairly easy to verify her story, about the gun going off when she dropped the backpack. Just look for a hole with powder burns around it.

I guess I can't be too hard on her, it was not particularly unusual for various students at my high school, Watsonville (go Wildcats) to carry firearms, knives, nunchucks, perhaps explosives. The best defense was to know someone who ever might want to hurt you was seriously afraid of.
Are we there yet?

I read that only two people were injured by the gunfire directly (the girl who got hit in the wrist and the boy who got hit in the head), while the others were injured either by broken glass or while trying to flee.

Well, maybe if he had brought a gun to school he could be outer there in the hallways shooting back.

Gosh, if only there was something that could be done about our school shooting epidemic (pandemic?).

I've read that before, and it still baffles me. Like what kind of shallow, moronic thinker do you have to be to think it's a good idea to teach kids and young people to rush at a shooter?

How do you not sit and think about the kind of teaching and training it would require to successfully teach children to do this and then recoil in horror at the idea?

I really hate that I am desensitized to mass murders in schools with firearms.

I no longer think we deserve to privately own guns.
