ETA: No idea what Norton's Empire is.

Probably mid-to-late next week depending on sign-ups.

Start of a thread about the transcript of fusion GPS testimony to the house subcommittee that was released yesterday.

I had to look up what the fuck Higbie does.  He resigned as the public face of Americorps over his racist spewings.

The justice dept just dropped charges against 129 inauguration protestors.  They evidently gave up on convincing anyone sane.

They continue to pursue (for now anyway) cases against 59 people who had any history at all with antifa or antifa-like groups.

I wonder how many cases they'll pursue before juries.

Probably should have been tracking this shit in an omnibus thread all along.

http://www.businessinsider.com/senate-extends-fisa-section-702-warrantless-surveillance-bill-2018-1

This passed 65-34.  That's an unacceptable number of Democrats voting for warrantless searches of US citizens' phone calls and emails.

Lots of local prep going on regarding the expected ICE mega-raid on the bay area.

I'm wondering if they'll do it before, during or after all the anniversary marches happening this weekend.

Which would be better?

Which is more likely?

Raven's odds are currently 65% on shutdown.

I'm still not joining in, but raven sure knows how to pick themes that tempt me.

You know what I'm thinking.

nor would most of the central valley.

lolnope.

You know what to do.
20
I'm actually thinking about moving one of these days, but have my eye on blue areas east of Sacto.
21
though I share your lol at the inclusion of San Diego and silicon valley.

it's state border gerrymandering. You don't kick all the liberals out. You just kick out enough that you can control the politics.

A port and the tech heart of the state.

SF and the East Bay would benefit from businesses fleeing new Cal but the residents of SF and Oakland in particular don't want more gentrification.
22
It seems almost inevitable, though.

Progressive democracy --> racist President --> Government shutdown

Between that release and the fusion GPS transcript release DiFi looks like she's decided it's zero fucks to give time.

Feinstein on Trump Statements
Jan 12 2018
Washington--Senate Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today released the following statement on President Trump's comments:

"President Trump's vile comments about Africa and Haiti are despicable and beneath the dignity of the presidency. They unquestionably diminish our country's standing in the world.

"America's greatness is enshrined in the words written on the Statue of Liberty: 'Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.' It's been said that America is an idea. That idea is rooted in the belief that people from all over the world could come here, whether they were fleeing persecution, poverty, or war, or simply looking for a better life for themselves and their families.

"The president's expressed desire to see more immigrants from countries like Norway must be called out for what it is: an effort to set this country back generations by promoting a homogenous, white society.

"The president's words make the jobs of Americans stationed all over the world harder--soldiers, diplomats and businesses. Hate crimes against Muslims, Jews, LGBT individuals and other minorities have increased over the past two years. White nationalism, which led to the death of a peaceful protestor in August, is on the rise.

"We all need to stop pretending that there are no consequences when the most powerful person in the world espouses racist views and gives a wink and a nod to the darkest elements in our society.

"If the president can't control himself and lead this country with the authority, dignity and leadership it requires, then he shouldn't be the president. There's no room for racism in the Oval Office."
