LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky State Rep. Dan Johnson, who was under investigation for alleged sexual molestation, has committed suicide.

Bullitt County Sheriff Donnie Tinnell said Johnson killed himself on a bridge on Greenwell Ford Road in Mt. Washington, and the gun was recovered.

Just before 5 p.m. Wednesday, Johnson posted the following message on his Facebook page:

The accusations from NPR are false GOD and only GOD knows the truth, nothing is the way they make it out to be. AMERICA will not survive this type of judge and jury fake news . Conservatives take a stand. I LOVE GOD and I LOVE MY WIFE, who is the best WIFE in the world,My Love Forever ! My Mom and Dad my FAMILY and all five of my kids and Nine grandchildren two in tummies and many more to come each of you or a total gift from GOD stay strong, REBECCA needs YOU . 9-11-2001 NYC/WTC, PTSD 24/7 16 years is a sickness that will take my life, I cannot handle it any longer. IT Has Won This Life . BUT HEAVEN IS MY HOME. "PLEASE LISTEN CLOSELY, Only Three things I ask of you to do,if you love me is (1)blame no person,Satan is the accuser, so blame the Devil himself. (2) Forgive and Love everyone especially yourself .(3)most importantly LOVE GOD. P.S. I LOVE MY FRIENDS YOU ARE FAMILY ! GOD LOVES ALL PEOPLE NO MATTER WHAT !

According to court documents obtained by the Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting, the alleged molestation took place on New Year's Eve in 2012. The alleged victim, who was 17 at the time, told authorities that she was staying in a living area of the Heart of Fire City Church where Johnson was pastor, when Johnson, who had been drinking a lot, approached her, kissed her and fondled her under her clothes.

Johnson was never criminally charged. He vehemently denied the allegations at a press conference Tuesday.
Nova Scotia is enacting a law to make it illegal to declaw cats in the province.

Very few vets here will do it, but this means they don't have to argue with owners who want it done.

Wish it were banned here because having to deal with this shit in practice is awful. The last place I worked at used to do it, and I hated it.
Same. Politics is some dumb game that doesn't involve anything serious.

Btw, on another note, my MIL has been on a tear about Bill Clinton  (how come we have to start with Republicans if we're all of a sudden sooooo concerned about sexual harassment and assault? !) and Ted Kennedy and also this doctor who exposed the Clintons in Haiti was found dead!!!!!!!

This is the level of delusion and yay team we're dealing with.

the salt is delicious

The best way to fight sexual assault is to vote child molesters into positions of power.
Drunk on lmaos

This phrase is beautiful.

Also taking the time to enjoy the endless barrage of "and the horse he rode in on" jokes.

Those dogs' dinners could be swapped out for a plant-based food under a proposal before the Los Angeles City Board of Animal Services Commissioners. The change, which commissioners could decide Tuesday, would make the city's shelter system the first in the nation to feed its canine residents a vegan diet, according to its chief veterinarian.

Supporters, who include musician and animal rights activist Moby and the feminist lawyer Lisa Bloom, say that is one of the selling points: to make L.A. shelter dogs the vanguard of a meat-free movement.

"If we adopt this, it's one more thing that proves to the world that Los Angeles really is the progressive capital," Moby, whose real name is Richard Hall, testified at the board's meeting last month.

The idea was proposed by Commissioner Robert Wolfson, a Hollywood screenwriter who cited research that he contended shows vegan diets "eliminate" many health problems in dogs, which are omnivores. But he said rethinking the dogs' meals is about far more sweeping matters -- the environmental effect of a meat industry that produces the main ingredients in lots of dog food and the ethics of feeding animals to animals.

Also pet food uses leftovers from human food production, and it's the kind of meat that humans won't eat because no one wants to chow down on some delicious diaphragm or bone meal, so all of that food would basically go to waste with no change in food animal production because the humans will still be eating the same amount of meat YOU STUPID FUCKS.

And the ethics of feeding animals to animals? Are you fucking kidding me?

The city's chief veterinarian, Jeremy Prupas, was not convinced. In a report to the commission, he recommended rejecting the proposal, saying that it could deprive dogs of sufficient protein, calcium and phosphorus and that it could be inadequate for injured, pregnant or lactating pups. Prupas said he'd consulted three clinical nutritionists at veterinary medical schools, one shelter medicine specialist and a veterinary toxicologist who works with a pet food company. None endorsed vegan dog diets, he testified.

"We recognize that individual, privately owned dogs can do well on a wide variety of diets (Commercial,  Vegetarian, Organic, Grain-free, Gluten-free, Raw, and Vegan)," Prupas wrote in his report. "However, that is quite a different population than the group of dogs we encounter daily in our animal shelters."

For christ's sake, someone please listen to the goddamn experts for once.

That argument precipitated several diarrhea-related comments in nearly two hours of testimony at the commission's Nov. 28 meeting, where pro-vegan voices dominated. Several pet owners, including Bloom, insisted that their vegan dogs had never suffered from digestive problems.

seriously fuck these people
lol when she started going off about how she's a Republican, I got flashbacks to my mom getting fed up with my dad or my brother or someone in the family with the same gestures and tone of voice and speed of talking and I'm thinking SHUT YOUR MOUTH AND DUCK FOR COVER MAN

(idk wtf is up with the singing though)
Does this mean teeth will shut the fuck up now?

Actually I'm eager to hear more takes about how black voters were unmotivated.

i'm looking forward to the fruits of complacency when "managed to beat an open child molester" is taken as vindication of a party's ability to win elections.

i'm not even doing this for snark, yo, i am glad jones won (actually still can't really believe that something not dogshit happened like this tbh?) but my concerns about dem ground game are based on looking at 2018 and realizing they're not going to have any targets that soft again.

I don't think Moore was a soft target just as I don't think that in retrospect Trump should've been considered easy to beat. They're fucking lunatic clowns to us, but the garbage they're spewing sells among some very highly motivated demographics of terrible white people. AL is super mega fucking partisan, and most GOP voters didn't give a single shit about the fact they were voting for a child molester. What got Jones close and put him over the top was a combination of some serious get-out-the-vote efforts, especially among black people, and so many choosing to write-in instead of voting for Moore. He would've lost if those write-ins had voted Republican, but he still would've come closer than any Democrat has in god knows how long. It's a goddamn miracle he won, but the success in getting this many people to turn out on a weirdo off-year special election in December, amidst all of the election tampering shenanigans, deserves credit.
What are the odds of Moore literally dropping an honest to god racial slur in his speech?
Does this mean teeth will shut the fuck up now?

Both the Dallas Police Department and Dallas Fire-Rescue are struggling to find people who want to protect and serve. Both chiefs told city council members that the millennial generation is partly to blame.

"We have nights, weekends and holidays -- not attractive to millennials who want all days off and to be the chief in six months," Chief Hall said. "We recognize that is a challenge."

"The other challenge -- they're job hopping every five years," added Dallas Fire Chief David Coatney.

Both chiefs said they're also challenged with starting pay that is lower than neighboring cities.

Hmm, yes, I'm sure the problem is that millennials only want to work one day a week and become chief immediately.
Politics and Current Events / Re: Trumpocalypse

Most of us would "rather not," but ignoring this crazy piece of shit who happens to be President of the goddamn United States doesn't make it all go away, you fucking coward.
What the fuck.

No, really, what in the actual honest to god literal jesus christ FUCK:

One of the introductory speakers was Bill Sailing, who said he served with Moore in Vietnam. Sailing told the story of a night he spent with Moore and a third man, who he did not name. According to Sailing it was the third man's last night in Vietnam and the man invited them to a "private club" in the city to celebrate with "a couple of beers."

Moore and Sailing agreed. According to Sailing, they didn't expect there was anything untoward going on at the "private club" because "there were legitimate private clubs" in Vietnam. The third man drove them to the club in his Jeep.

Sailing said that, when he and Moore arrived, they soon realized the man had taken them to a brothel. The third man, Sailing suggested, essentially tricked them. "I could tell you what I saw but I don't want to," Sailing said mischievously.

"There were certainly pretty girls. And they were girls. They were young. Some were very young," Sailing acknowledged. But according to Sailing, Moore was shocked by what he saw. "We shouldn't be here, I'm leaving," Moore said, according to Sailing.

They asked the third man to leave with them but he didn't want to. So Sailing and Moore took his Jeep and left him there all night with sex workers, who they agreed were underage. The man returned to base the next morning on the back of a motorcycle, Sailing said with a grin.
Ryan Lizza, the reporter who wrote the infamous Scaramucci piece:

Mario Batali:

Minutes into their conversation, she recalls, he told her, "Come work for me, I'll pay you double what you're making." Moments later, someone bumped her glass, spilling wine all over her chest and down her scooped-neck shirt. She alleges that Batali began rubbing her breasts with his bare hands while saying something like, "Let me help you with that," as he groped her chest. "He just went to town, and I was so shocked," the chef says. "Jaw on the ground, I just stepped back from him in utter disgust and walked away."

The chef is one of four women who allege that Batali touched them inappropriately in a pattern of behavior that appears to span at least two decades. Three of the women worked for Batali in some capacity during their careers. One former employee alleges that over the course of two years, he repeatedly grabbed her from behind and held her tightly against his body. Another former employee alleges that he groped her and that, in a separate incident, he compelled her to straddle him; another alleges that he grabbed her breasts at a party, though she no longer worked for him at the time. The woman whose allegations are described above has never worked for Batali, though she works in the restaurant industry.

Batali did not deny all the allegations, saying that they "match up" with ways he has behaved.

"I apologize to the people I have mistreated and hurt. Although the identities of most of the individuals mentioned in these stories have not been revealed to me, much of the behavior described does, in fact, match up with ways I have acted. That behavior was wrong and there are no excuses. I take full responsibility and am deeply sorry for any pain, humiliation or discomfort I have caused to my peers, employees, customers, friends and family."
I'm shocked that in a series of news cycles inundated by an insane cartoonishly literally evil character that a random person in a bar doesn't really know all of the boring details about a normal politician's platform. I'm sure the disproportionate coverage of the kidfucking over pretty much everything else had nothing to do with it. If Jones had been pushing Medicare for All, he'd be getting all of the media attention, and people would know what he stands for.
He had me until he started speculating about osteosarc citing only Zoobiquity and then "I learned today there's a National Canine Cancer Foundation."

I mean, it's good to know that this particular bear is a total outlier for that specific population. It's interesting to read about how some of these populations are managed and tracked. And, yeah, shit like this makes deniers dig their heels in, but deniers are mostly unreachable. They don't respond to detailed, reasonable analysis, either. You're not going to change their minds pretty much no matter what you do or how you approach the issue.

But I've never seen any references to osteosarcoma in ursine species. Just because it's very common in some dog breeds doesn't mean it's likely to be seen in every other species. Even within the species, it's rare in some breeds of dog. Osteosarcoma is also rare in cats and is not as aggressive as it is in dogs. It's extremely rare in other species like horses and cattle. In dogs, the majority of tumors appear on the appendicular skeleton, and of those, the front limb is the most common site (distal radius/ulna, specifically). By the time you see an actual lump, it's likely already metastasized, most often to the lungs. By that point, the animal is usually non-weight bearing on that limb or showing more obvious signs of pain or altered gait. That bear is dragging both hind limbs from what looks like simple weakness but later bears (lol) weight on all 4 limbs and walks in a way that looks relatively normal to me. Compared to all the time I've spent watching bears in zoos. :mason:

As for the "similar signs," muscle atrophy and weakness can be associated with a billion different things and many types of cancer. The dogs I've seen with osteosarcoma (and often pretty big lesions, confirmed metastasis to the lungs on X-ray by the time they come in) haven't looked like some other cancer patients. The ones I've seen have mostly been alert and in decent body condition. It mets so rapidly that there's often not much time for muscle wasting and some of the other signs you see with other types of cancer, even though they often stop eating. At the very end, they look like complete shit, but body condition may not necessarily change that quickly. So I don't know why he zeroed in on osteosarcoma specifically. I'm no bear doctor and think it's certainly within the realm of possibility that this bear had some kind of cancer or some other underlying disease, but if we're going to beep boop it up, let's beep boop it up for real.  :smugprof:

eta btw Zoobiquity is a very good book, and everyone should read it

A paper, published in July, said that the higher global temperatures go the more likely polar bears are to interact with humans -- and possibly attack and eat them.

The only silver lining, IMO.

Some expressed skepticism that anything could be gleaned about the environment from one image. A commenter on the National Geographic's Facebook page wondered about the bear's age, when the footage was taken and what an autopsy would show.

This is why we deserve to be eaten by bears.

Of course you can't tell exactly what was wrong with this individual bear and why, but it's a fact that the polar bear population is crashing and that a huge contributor to their decline is climate change. Anyone who thinks that publishing a well-reasoned paper with citations is enough to get the public interested in fucking doing anything is an idiot.

We didn't get to where we are with reducing smoking rates by going on at length about the mechanisms of how cigarettes cause disease. People didn't read scientific papers and learn all of the details of how cigarettes cause the harm they cause. We got there through PR and advertising, through images and slogans and stories about real people dying horrible deaths. Because that's what fucking works.

So if showing someone a horribly sad video of a starving polar bear and saying, "Hey, lots of bears are going to end up like this one because of climate change" gets more people to pay attention and pressure those in power to change things, then I'm okay with it even if it turns out this particular bear's muscle atrophy and weakness was actually due to lymphoma or whatever. It's no different than showing the horror of a non-smoker dying from lung cancer and saying, "This is what lung cancer looks like, and smoking leads to more people ending up like this."
TR Embassy and Animal Shelter / Re: The Cat Thread
I mean, obviously, I can't really say anything with any certainty from reading a few words on the internet, but pain and going off feed are often things you see with severe dental disease. Lots of animals will drop food and pick it up and drop it again if it's hard food because it's just painful to eat. But obviously the actual vet who saw the actual cat in person would have a better idea of what could be wrong.

Also cats are fucking weird.
TR Embassy and Animal Shelter / Re: The Cat Thread

Poor kitty. Did they say whether they think the teeth might be causing the elevated WBC? Hopefully the antibiotic will get things under control and get him feeling better. Poor little buddy.
Look at Corey Stewart continuing to be a piece of fucking garbage:
