I wonder when we'll first get reports of the death camps
You mean like the ones Arpiao used to run here in AZ? (And still got re-elected 3-4 times.)
Your post sounds like Arpaio elections are in the past.
I know he's running for office again, but his chances are close to nil, since he's running for the senate seat, and his prior post was just Maricopa county. Maricopa is pretty much Nazi Az,

I found this article on capitalism and Marx's ideas interesting and enlightening. Not knowing much about it (I'm really lacking in that part of my history and general knowledge).
For the whoopsiedoodle file:

Dad shoots and kills suspected truck thief who was actually his own 13 year old son

Toddler shoots pregnant mom with dad's gun in parking lot
Lookit all these good guys with guns.
Sadly, the Onion stopped being funny, in that sense, about a year ago. :(
Now, it's about the best place to get actual news.
prognosticators (who admittedly have spent the last year and a half wondering whether they really know anything) consider her a decent possible contender for a primary challenge against trump in 2020.
I'll take that bet.
Politics and Current Events / Re: Removing Assad
Hey tioH, I'm curious:

You have one of the views closest to isolationism that I know. Is there a point at which (or situation in which) you would support direct military intervention, and if so, what is it?

my stance is based on my inability to trust the US government to not fuck up, so it's basically contingent on that.
Hrm. Is there some point where you would say "Even the US couldn't screw it up worse than this"?

in theory, if a particular conflict zone were completely depopulated aside from combatants and rendered incapable of supporting a long-term civilian population, it would be impossible for the US to make it any worse. although i guess even then they could escalate a conflict and cause it to spread out from the dead zone.
So we should resolve all our conflicts by sending the troops to the moon first?

I can get behind that. :)
So apparently, MAGA really stands for....

My Attorney's Getting Arrested.   :D
Pretty sure that motto went out the window with their IPO.
friendly reminder that gamergate really was the source of a lot of fucking pure straight up toxic garbage:

During Gamergate, a 2014 online harassment campaign waged by misogynists and racists online against women and minorities in the video game industry, Ricky Vaughn linked up with Yiannopoulos and Cernovich, who were ringleaders in the harassment and would both go on to even greater notoriety with their attempts to contaminate American political discourse with conspiracy theories.

"I owe a lot to them," Ricky Vaughn said on a recent podcast.
No no...according to a friend of a friend on FB (I have no idea where he finds these 'people'), gamergate was 'consumer activism'.   :stareicide:
China seems to be hitting the midwest the this trade war may backfire bigly.
Arts and Entertainment / Re: Whatcha playing'?
Just started playing Rebel Galaxy. This game is pretty fun. Good story (not terribly original, but well implemented), the space battles are limited to a 2-D plane, but the strategy/tactical choices are good, and it takes some skill. Diggin' it so far. I got real cheap when it was on sale on GoG, and ignored it for a long time.

I would say Nexus: The Jupiter Incident is the better 'spaceship simulator'.

Rebel Galaxy is the first game, though, that I'll actually add some of the songs to my playllist. The sound track is pretty amazing.

Here in AZ, we're trying to give FL a run for its money....

More seriously, the voter base in Maricopa is mostly transplanted retirees from the midwest.

...which may explain the similarity to FL.
Pretty sure Bill Maher blows Harris every time he has him on his dumbass show. They're both horrible in so many ways.

Careful though, Harris might try to sue us now. :p
I don't know enough about this technology to know if this is a good thing or not.

Arizona has become the first state in the U.S. to adopt a "regulatory sandbox" to shepherd the development of new emerging industries like fintech, blockchain and cryptocurrencies within its borders.

. . . . . .
Under the program, which will take effect later this year, companies will be able to test their products for up to two years and serve as many as 10,000 customers before needing to apply for formal licensure.

"With the signing of H.B 2434, Arizona will become the ultimate sandbox for the development of Fintech," Ducey wrote on Twitter once it became official.

"FinTech is going to fundamentally transform banking, finance & technology. We're going to be the first in the state to embrace it," he said at an event hosted by the Arizona Commerce Authority, a business group.
Knowing what I know about our current governor, I'm inclined to think this will be bad in the long run.

The Republican drew criticism after he made derisive comments on Twitter about Emma Gonzalez, a survivor of the recent school shooting in Parkland, Fla.

Gonzalez, who identifies as bisexual, is one of several Parkland students who have earned a high profile in the media for their push for stricter gun control in the wake of the Feb. 14 shooting, which left 17 people dead.

"There is nothing about this skinhead lesbian that impresses me and there is nothing that she has to say unless you're a frothing at the mouth moonbat," Gibson tweeted in response to a report on Gonzalez's rocketing number of Twitter followers, according to the Sun Journal.

He also criticized David Hogg, another Parkland survivor who has become a prominent activist in the wake of the shooting, calling Hogg "a bald faced liar," the news outlet reported.

Gibson later apologized on Twitter before deleting his account.

"I would like to extend to you my most sincere apology for how I addressed you," he said, according to New York Magazine. "It was wrong and unacceptable. You are doing work that is important to you. I would like to extend my hand in friendship and understanding to you."

wtf is wrong with these people?
They've been in the GOP bubble so long they forget what it's like to have to deal with consequences.

Alternatively, they're just fucking sociopaths.
Third Way makes an opening bid in the 2020 'ideas primary

Third Way fears that Democrats will try to counter the spread of "nativist, nationalist and nostalgic populism" on the right with a warmed-over version of left-wing populism.

You mean like the left-wing populism that got FDR elected 3 or 4 times and pretty much cemented a Democratic stranglehold on the House of Representatives for about 4 decades?

Yeah, that'd be horrible.
Yabbut, there's no fuckin' way the current dems can pull something even close to that off.
General Discussion / Re: Love your washing machine?
We've had the same frontloader now since 1997. It's had a couple minor mechanical issues (both times after a cross country move), but it still works great, uses much less water than top loaders, and is much nicer to clothes.
