This is how its pronounced in the UK.

The way I say it or the way these weirdos say it?
So that despite the polite invite you felt no respite from their spite.
Why do I bother?

there's basically a 100% chance that same person quotes Animal Farm's "some animals are more equal than others" as a criticism of socialism

if you press them to compromise, I'm sure they'd be willing to allow non-whites to count for 3/5 of a vote

Does anyone even pronounce that word with a long "i"?

I've never heard anyone pronounce it without a long i.

same :fistbump:

also "aunt" is "awnt" not "ant".
I've always said "aunt" as "ant".  but I know I'm out of the mainstream on that.  pretty sure I get it from my dad who's from Iowa and the 50s.

two other peculiarities I've gotten from him:
"pajamas" = pajæmas =/= pajahmas
"syrup" = sirrup =/= seerup

otherwise, those accent map thingies say I more or less have a generic american accent.

Yes, but also you are wrong.

Also I say basil like Basil Fawlty and not like bay-sil, and it is an argument with Ty that I will take to the grave. After I kill him for trying to correct me on it so many times when he's the one who's wrong.

brug I used to say oregano like Marge for fun but it's gotten to the point that this is how I usually say it now for real, +/- "what the hell?" about 1/3 of the time. And I can't see a gym without calling it a gyme.

Unfortunately I'm surrounded by young people who have only seen like 2 Simpsons episodes and don't understand anything I say. :sadcheer:

Ooooohhhh, a gyme.  :yes:

It's really weird that that show was a huge part of my life in a period that seems long over, and yet it still exists as a thing I'm barely aware of now. It's like if instead of getting assassinated, Lincoln served out his term, but then became really senile so nobody listened to him anymore.

my wife shows her students (7th grade) The Raven from The Simpsons every year and I'm pretty sure she's the only one who enjoys it, the kids are only vaguely aware of the simpsons existing

on top of accepting your apology, I want to gloat about the fact that the British version was basically a footnote.  face it guys:  american english-speakers outnumber english english-speakers so badly the language needs to be renamed "american"

Your wife is doing the Lord's work. :mason:

That's probably my favorite Treehouse of Horror bit, in part because Poe is one of my favorite poets and I also can't see his name without hearing Dr. Nick in my head:

by wife and MIL cannot pronounce "realtor" to save their lives.  they both incorrectly believe there is a third syllable between the l and the t, and they pronounce the t like a d ("flapping" pronunciation).  meep, is this a jersey thing?

No, I pronounce it as 2 syllables.

Also back on topic a bit, it seems that men continue to be the problem here:

So, we need to figure out Male voter suppression tactics.  Should be easy. Put boobs on TV on voting night?
