I wonder how many of those things Dave's buddy Sundance said were *definitely* going to lead to "heads rolling".   :hmm:
2
Hey Dave,

True or False:  Bill Clinton was impeached for having an affair with Monica Lewinski.
3
I think you guys may be missing Dave's point, because of the completely different moral systems here.

Dave doesn't care especially much about the age. That is, if anything, an aggravating factor, but not the central element. What is immoral to Dave is the "freeloading". The idea that Clinton could have sex with no consequences.

Right, Dave?

(n.b.: I in no way endorse Dave's point of view here)
The way he's phrased sounds like it has nothing to do with consequences, but that Lewinski wasn't getting anything out of it.

It would be one thing if Bill Clinton had taken her as a second wife with all the privileges both financial and otherwise that come along with that.  But no. He was free loading. Receiving pleasure from this vulnerable young woman and giving nothing in return.
Presumably, if Bill had gotten his lawyer to give Monica 130K then it would have been fine.

^^^^^ This.

Your hypocrisy is nauseating, Hawkins.
I guess it shouldn't surprise me that someone who is so utterly disconnected from reality in the Life Sciences should also be utterly disconnected from reality in the social sciences.  On the one hand we have a culturally accepted practice of older men taking younger brides. In return for favors including sexual favors, the woman received at least partial title to the older man's wealth plus an elevation of status within her people group,  the right to bear children and who knows what else.
Seems that fucking around on your wife is also a culturally accepted practice in some circles, as long as its by Trump

Quote
And on the other hand we have the absolutely not culturally accepted practice of powerful men, in this case the most powerful man in the country, using his position to make advances toward a young impressionable girl trying to make her way in the world. It would be one thing if Bill Clinton had taken her as a second wife with all the privileges both financial and otherwise that come along with that.  But no. He was free loading. Receiving pleasure from this vulnerable young woman and giving nothing in return. Talk about a slime bag. And it's hard to believe that a grown adult sporting a PhD degree cannot see the vast difference between these two situations. And no, I do not condone adultery AKA wife stealing. Where did you get that idea?
We need a pearl clutching emoji...

Also Lewinski would probably disagree with your characterization of her as a "poor impressionable young woman" as she maintains that the relationship was consentual.

whats mysterious is how Trump, of all people, came to be anyone's hero.
It's the ultimate triumph of cynicism.
Yeah. A more disgusting human is hard to imagine.
Oh I dunno. How about the president who got a blowjob from a female intern under the desk in the Oval Office?
An intern.
In the freaking Oval Office.
LOL at your moral outrage.   She was quite a bit younger than him so "Whoo-hooo" right?    Adultery obviously isn't a problem for you.   Is it the fact it was in the Oval Office that is so upsetting?

I don't really find Political Dave entertaining. YEC Dave has his amusing moments, but Political Dave is a symptom, or an exemplar, of a whole lot of bad craziness infecting the US as a whole. He's not alone, he has millions of compatriots.
The Art-of-the-Deal fan fiction coming from the Trump supporters is pretty funny.    Gotta turn every failure into a shrewd move in some unknowable master plan. Because obviously it only looks like Trump is a moron who is getting played at every turn.

Trump threatens war against North Korea -- and says South Korea and Japan will pay for it
resident Donald Trump on Thursday threatened to go to war with North Korea if it kept behaving badly -- and he said that our allies in Japan and South Korea would pay for it.

During his formal announcement on withdrawing from a planned summit with North Korea, Trump said that both South Korea and Japan "are willing to shoulder much of the cost of any financial burden, any of the costs associated by the United States in operations" if the United States is "forced" to attack North Korea.

Swear I thought this must be an Onion article.  :stare:
Raw meat for his moron supporters.

Also, who the fuck edited this?   The "cost of the financial burden"?

Lol.   Sure.   Amazing how one 4 year old tweet can be used to hand-wave away any negotiation Trump fails to close.

I bet Kim's response (well, the response his authors will write up for him) will include something like "When the President of the USA cares no more about petty political games, Nobel prizes and his own ratings, and is ready to discuss in earnest about the well-being of the People, the Chairman of NK will be here to meet him on the negotiating table as an equal. Our offer stands".

And just like that, that little SOB will have come out on top. Great.
Especially since NK also destroyed a nuclear test site today.   https://www.cnn.com/2018/05/24/asia/north-korea-nuclear-test-site-intl/index.html

Americans always boast about their military reach irt Canada. Heinz, nobody wants to nuke Canada. No one wants to invade Canada. Russia at her worst has better ideas about where to invade.  Despite Trump's whining, the US does not really want Canada to develop a powerful military. (Long history of 'persuasion'). The US military itself is a significant factor in Canadian military deaths (friendly fire). The US 'nuclear umbrella' is just a great big threat to the world. The most likely invader of Canada IS the US, probably when climate change really impacts US water resources in some unpleasant future.

Lol, we know how economies work! Seriously, the sooner you get an American government that's somewhat sane, the happier we'll be. This guy sucks.

Right. The US is going to invade Canada. I didn't know you were a nutcase.

Don't pretend to be naïve about the future. Canada and the US (and other nations) are already in an uncomfortable standoff re Arctic sovereignty, this as a direct result of climate change, especially irt the increase in accessibility and the opening of new shipping routes.

And as Dave Godfrey points out, there's history. The US has form wrt liking the idea of owning bits of Canada. I don't think you grasp how increasingly thirsty the US is going to be in the future, and how unlikely it is that Canada will just happily give away more of our resources than we already do. Unlikely to cause real conflict in my lifetime. Increasingly likely 50 years down the line.
If America ever finds they're running low on fresh water watch how fast they decide Canada needs to be "liberated".

Yeah, it is just great that the Obama administration spied on the Trump campaign, right?

If it was the other way around you would be calling for an investigation and impeachment.

Like, if then candidate Trump somehow managed to get a mole to infiltrate the White House?   What the fuck is wrong with you?

Lol.  Companies using their tax breaks for massive stock buybacks then moving production overseas?  No one could have seen this coming!  #MakeThailandGreatAgain

tbf, I get the impression that many if not most Trumpublicans use the term, 'liberal', to describe anyone left of themselves,  anyone who thinks Obama was a better president than Trump, pretty much all Democrats and pretty much all the mainstream news media.
Yeah, in the US it has become a pejorative used by Alex Jones, Rush Limbaugh, and MAGAbots to label anyone who doesn't like Trump.
Predates Trump.   The first time someone called me a "Liberal" in that way was in 2011.

President Trump has personally pushed U.S. Postmaster General Megan Brennan to double the rate the Postal Service charges Amazon.com and other firms to ship packages, according to three people familiar with their conversations, a dramatic move that probably would cost these companies billions of dollars.

Watch Rudy Giuliani Melt Down When He's Shown a Rebuttal By...Rudy Giuliani

Giuliani joined CNN's Chris Cuomo Friday morning to suggest there was no way a sitting president could be compelled to testify. He then promptly melted down when Cuomo played back a clip of Giuliani saying the opposite when the president in question was Bill Clinton:
<Said Video>
"That's really unfair!" Giuliani said. "That's extremely unfair what you're doing right now! This is the reason people don't come on this show!" In a novel and fairly effective strategy, Giuliani tried to just talk over the clip showcasing his obvious hypocrisy. We can probably expect this to become the norm among presidential defenders. For reference, when asked in the clip what would happen if the president is subpoenaed to testify, Giuliani answered, "You gotta do it."

LOL. Wow. Just noticed the same thing in the cart thread. Heinz really can't remember what's being discussed for very long.
A very Trumpian trait.

I did not read the original article, but based on the news piece it seems possible that the term "memory" is being used rather uncritically.  If the snail's reaction is mediated by some metabolic process that involves RNA, then adding some of that RNA to another snail might cause it to react in a similar fashion.  Whether this would be "memory" is a semantic question, but one should not conflate it with other sorts of "memory".

Peez
Yeah, all it would take is the original stimulus to create a transcriptional response, then transferring the RNA to another animal would allow a quicker rapid response to the same stimulus...   Calling it "memory" is salesmanship.

I don't know the history of the modern state of Israel very well but couldn't the Palestinians petition the United Nations or something to have a recognized homeland just as Israel has done?

N Korea cancels talks with South Korea and warns US

North Korea has cancelled Wednesday's high-level talks with South Korea because of anger over its joint military exercises with the US.

The North's official KCNA news agency said the exercises were a "provocation" and a rehearsal for an invasion.

It also warned the US over the fate of the historic summit between Kim Jong-un and US President Donald Trump that is scheduled for 12 June.

World class deal maker.  After getting freaked out by China's retaliation against his tariffs, Trump forgives a company that was under sanctions for trading with Iran and North Korea (and that has deep ties to the Chinese Government).

Also this:  https://www.nationalreview.com/news/china-contributing-500-million-trump-linked-project-indonesia/

The Chinese government is extending a $500 million loan to a state-owned construction company to build an Indonesian theme park that will feature a Trump-branded golf course and hotels.

the $500 million loan will not be directly allocated to any of the Trump-branded features

"Even if this deal is completely and entirely above board, it simply furthers the perception of impropriety"

No matter what happens, to some people there will always be the perception of impropriety
what else is new?
Replace "Trump" with 'Clinton" in that article. (Assume the parts that don't make sense that way, do). Read it again. Tell us about your perception of it.
Well, that's different because we *know* that Killary Clinton is a criminal.
