'Liberal" in the US has a much different meaning than it has in many other countries. Here in Greece, our right-wing party proudly uses the term 'liberal' to refer to their principles.
Who even made the rule that we cannot group ducks and fish together for the simple reason that they are both aquatic? If I want to group them that way and it serves my purpose then I can jolly well do it however I want to and it is still a nested hierarchy and you can't tell me that it's not.

I just think there is too much negativity being attached to everything that Trump does.

Previous presidents, from Bush to Clinton and Obama, have promised to move the US Embassy to Jerusalem, but never kept those promises. Trump kept his promise, and the liberals attack him for it.

Obama did use military bases to house illegal children immigrants. Trump just talks about doing it, and the headlines scream that he is a monster.
I am beginning to see liberals as the most dishonest people on the planet.

You appear to see 'liberals' as a monolithic group. In my country, 'Liberals' most often refers to the Liberal Party, which currently is the government. In Australia, something different is implied re government.

In any case, I think you'd find most of the members of this forum don't identify as 'liberals', but as some other point on the political spectrum.

That's good because my remarks were not specifically aimed at people on this forum, most of whom I respect; otherwise I would not be posting here.

Pay them? I'd usually say that they'd do nothing so crass, but this is Trump and his administration.

I rest my case.

I have spent years on US military bases; they are not concentration camps, as some liberal media would have you think!
Those kids will have the best food they have ever eaten in their lives, all the ice cream they can eat and round-the-clock care and supervision. I bet a lot of them will not want to leave!
Jesus Christ. Yeah, I'm sure kids taken from their parents will never want to see them again!

The parents might possibly want to see their kids again.
Are we there yet?

Anyway, Trump himself says they're "breaking families" (although he claims the Dems and their laws force him to do it). So it seems that the fact itself is not in dispute, but the reason behind it is.

LOL. Wow. No one but the most blind Trump-worshiper could possibly buy that at this point. Blaming the party that has virtually no power to make laws when your party has been in almost complete control of the government for a year and a half is beyond pathetic.

And of course, like most of what Trump says, it's a complete lie anyway. There is no law that mandates the separation of migrant families.

Most of the kids that are moved to military bases are unaccompanied or accompanied by people other than their parents. Don't make it sound as if babies are being ripped from their mother's breast.

And a lot of those kids will be better off on the bases than where they are now.

I'm curious how you know this, in light of:
Quote
According to a January 2017 report to Congress by migrant and refugee support organizations, there is no government entity charged with systematically tracking family separations and no requirement that family separations be documented or justified.

Did you forget what this discussion was about?
Iirc, the children Obama's gov't was trying to house were a really large influx of unaccompanied children. (In fact, you can read about it here:)

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/federal-eye/wp/2014/07/22/where-is-the-obama-administration-housing-the-immigrant-kids/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.35ea8b47f102

In Trump's case, the government is talking of routinely separating children from their parents when they cross the border seeking asylum, and is calling it a 'deterrent' - iow, taking children from their mothers as punishment for seeking asylum, even if it turns out these families do qualify for some kind of status in the US.

I hope you can see the difference.

'Liberal" in the US has a much different meaning than it has in many other countries. Here in Greece, our right-wing party proudly uses the term 'liberal' to refer to their principles.
For another example, in Sweden, there are (perhaps slightly simplified) three major parties to the right of the centre party, Centern.

First to the right, the Liberals. Second, the Moderates, declaring themselves to be a liberal-conservative party. US republicans will probably regard both as socialist. The extreme right party members often look rather fascist, and probably won't go for the Liberal label.

Did, in fact house, some 7000 of them.

Yes, I see the difference!

Obama actually housed 7000 illegal immigrant children on US military bases.

The Trump administration is talking about doing the same as a deterrent.

I hope you can see the difference.

Yes, it's clearly two different things. Housing unaccompanied children, as opposed to talking about separating children from their families "as a deterrent".

So why the comparison?
Who even made the rule that we cannot group ducks and fish together for the simple reason that they are both aquatic? If I want to group them that way and it serves my purpose then I can jolly well do it however I want to and it is still a nested hierarchy and you can't tell me that it's not.

I guess you will need to ask Borealis; it was her comparison, wasn't it?

Notice that borealis pointed out that the two are different, as you now agree. But you originally made the difference to be all about talking about something and actually doing it. Except it was not about the same thing.

I mean comeon.

Nah. Heinz is a contrarian. I don't think he even likes Trump; he just likes to think of himself as practical and unbiased, which leads him to falling over backwards to defend some really heinous bullshit.

Watch Rudy Giuliani Melt Down When He's Shown a Rebuttal By...Rudy Giuliani

Giuliani joined CNN's Chris Cuomo Friday morning to suggest there was no way a sitting president could be compelled to testify. He then promptly melted down when Cuomo played back a clip of Giuliani saying the opposite when the president in question was Bill Clinton:
<Said Video>
"That's really unfair!" Giuliani said. "That's extremely unfair what you're doing right now! This is the reason people don't come on this show!" In a novel and fairly effective strategy, Giuliani tried to just talk over the clip showcasing his obvious hypocrisy. We can probably expect this to become the norm among presidential defenders. For reference, when asked in the clip what would happen if the president is subpoenaed to testify, Giuliani answered, "You gotta do it."
