Incidentally, I hadn't heard of this bunch until yesterday, when the bloke at one of the local servos tried to convince me to vote for them.

Citizens Electoral Council
Possibly just straight-up insane. Climate deniers, but economically kinda socialist. Anti-Semitic and possibly white supremacist, but pro-immigration. They also claim that the Port Arthur massacre was commissioned by the British royal family and implemented by a mental health NGO.
So I have now realised that servo dude, although not actually stupid or a bad person AFAICT, really is completely bonkers.
the only theme I detected there is that they are pro-conspiracy theory

The Citizens Electoral Council of Australia (CEC) is a minor political party in Australia affiliated with the international LaRouche Movement, led by American political activist Lyndon LaRouche. For the purpose of federal registration with the Australian Electoral Commission it reported having 549 members in 2007.[1] They have been described as "far right",[2] "fascist" and "lunar right",[3] as well as "ideologues on the economic Left".[4] However, the party has campaigned explicitly against "fascism", which is the term it used for certain policy trends that started under the John Howard-led Coalition government, specifically counter-terrorism laws, for their impact on civil liberties, and the mandatory detention and offshore processing of refugees.[5]

Yeah, watch out for the "Health Australia Party". Bunch of anti-vaxxers.

Also unimpressed with Rise Up. And whatever party is running on cutting immigration. Ugh. Bunch of right wing nuts.

Frankly I think there are good non-right-wing-nutjob arguments for keeping Australia's population down. Just about every Oz ecosystem I know of is pretty much up the shit, and things are not likely to improve as added stresses from climate change ramp up. So hey, I have a brilliant idea. Let's increase the stresses on those ecosystems by ramping up the number of humans too! Yes! That'll totally work. When has that ever gone wrong?

Population increase is going to happen due to global flows and processes. If we deny immigration, we face Global North accusations of using our sovereignty to entitle us to a better share (and protection of our share) of the world's resources. I don't think we can run domestic campaigns targeting protecting Australians from the evils of immigration without crossing some major ideological lines of exclusion and othering.

I think it's better to support the systems in place that protect and assist the environment - e.g. Renewable energy, reduction of carbon emissions, conservation, reducing of drenching and dumping, better water policy etc. I hope as mining continues to slow down, Australia finds better industries to move into. We could learn a lot from Singaporean model.

I didn't know Jerome was standing for election in Australia.
Why do I bother?

Must admit I don't see a lot of anti-Labor or anti-Greens memes, but the flak they are all throwing at each other keeps things entertaining. The whole fucking thing's a giant sausage fest on acid.

I'm basically just in popcorn mode, since I already know how I will be voting. Get this shit. I have to (fucking have to) vote for this lot of morons:

Justine Elliot (Labor)
Dawn Walker (Greens)
Angela Pollard (Animal Justice)
Neil Smith (One Nation)
Russell Kilarney (Christian Democratic Party)
Matthew Fraser (Nationals)

When you have to actually vote for One Nation and the CDP, things are fuckered up big time. :p
Can you not spoil your ballot? Or only stick a number in one or two boxes?
Why do I bother?

nope, unless you number every box it's an informal vote.

but you can draw a cock & balls on the ballot paper and still have it counted. Straya!!~

It's a close election, but far closer to the bastards reforming with a minoroty gov than the bastards losing their power.

I don't want to spoil my fucking ballot. Quite the opposite. I was just pissed that I have to put a number next to everyone.

Yup, that's how it works. And you'd better do it too. Because if you don't, you can bet the only people refusing to vote for the nazis will be the "sane" ones,  with the result that the nutters who want nazis will win the fucking seat, so you wont end up looking so sane then, will you? The way to tackle it is for everyone to give the sane candidate their first preference, and for the sane candidate to refuse to preference the nazis. That way the nazis still lose.

This is going to be fun. It's what my Tony fhtagn joke was about.

Election 2016: Tony Abbott

Quote
"Former prime minister Tony Abbott used his victory speech in his seat of Warringah on Sydney's North Shore to declare that "wouldn't it be nice to see a bit of democracy" inside the federal Liberal Party."
This is code for "can we have another spill so I can be PM again, since Truffles almost lost you the election anyway so there?". Turnbull is in a very precarious position. It is quite likely that before the end of the year Turnbull will be booted and Abbott, or someone equally fucked up, will be the PM. The Nationals, and the hard right of the Liberal Party, absolutely hate Turnbull and will knife him at the first opportunity.

No, I meant that you also had to indicate a preference for the nazis too, which seemed to be what MSG was suggesting. I mean obviously you'd vote for the sane candidate because otherwise the nazis would get in, but I thought you also had to indicate which of the nazis you disliked least, rather than simply not putting a number in their box because you didn't want to vote for any other candidate.

If you need it in very simple terms: on the House of Representatives ticket you have to number every box.

If you do not number every box, your vote is informal and therefore discarded. Which means the nazis win. :p

Oh and a scary thing is that in my electorate, fucking lunatic nazis got a total of 7.5% of first preference votes. Which tells me something I already knew, namely that at least 7.5% of the locals are demented.
