I'm not ashamed to admit (well, I am slightly) that The Bodyguard soundtrack was the first album I ever bought, aged 10. She had one hell of a voice.

Good night, sweet prince

From wiki
Quote:
Houston was the only artist to chart seven consecutive No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 hits ("Saving All My Love for You", "How Will I Know", "Greatest Love of All", "I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)", "Didn't We Almost Have It All", "So Emotional", and "Where Do Broken Hearts Go").
I recently sang the bolded at a party for karaoke. My officemate asked me if I was singing it for him, and I said "yes" and touched his chest right where his heart is. He shuddered and then threatened to report me for sexual harassment. YEAH RIGHT.

How did Bart manage to get past security and get into her Beverly Hilton hotel room?

The below is a letter-to-the-editor in the Danish newspaper Politiken, just a commentary from one of its readers on the death of miss Houston. Perhaps a bit silly, but I thought it was profound. Translated into English to the best of my ability.

Quote:
"The Day the Eighties Died"
By David Konrad, Albertslund, Denmark
Danish original listed in Politiken, 2012-02-12

Whitney Houston is dead. A singing angel has ventured beyond. And with it our last faith in the naive hope. "Better", in the eighties fashion. Back when we were happy. We hoped for the best, and excelled therefore in the best and the worst. We used pastels and acrylics. We could endure national cutbacks. We could accept the fall of the Wall, and still Whitney came into our hearts, this time on film with Kevin Costner.

But then Whitney fell into disrepair. And so did the West. The United States and Europe. We fell into disrepair. We fell financially, fell into stupid wars. Whitney was the reflection of the shattered dream. That success, wealth and total domination will not last forever.

When Whitney announced that she would go into rehab many drew a sigh of relief. Not only because they loved her, but because she was that symbolic. She could confirm our last hope, that everything would one day improve.

Now she is dead. The last remnant of the eighties died with her. We have no more hope. There is no faith in the future anymore. The only faith to be mobilized dwells in an economic plan.

I will not end with a Whitney Houston link, but another from the eighties. They are still here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1TcDHrkQYg

Houston's former husband, Bobby Brown was reported to be "in and out of crying fits" since receiving the news. He did not cancel a scheduled performance and within hours of his ex-wife's sudden death an audience in Mississippi observed as Brown blew kisses skyward, tearfully saying: "I love you, Whitney".
