"The Day the Eighties Died"

Whitney Houston is dead. A singing angel has ventured beyond. And with it our last faith in the naive hope. "Better", in the eighties fashion. Back when we were happy. We hoped for the best, and excelled therefore in the best and the worst. We used pastels and acrylics. We could endure national cutbacks. We could accept the fall of the Wall, and still Whitney came into our hearts, this time on film with Kevin Costner.

But then Whitney fell into disrepair. And so did the West. The United States and Europe. We fell into disrepair. We fell financially, fell into stupid wars. Whitney was the reflection of the shattered dream. That success, wealth and total domination will not last forever.

When Whitney announced that she would go into rehab many drew a sigh of relief. Not only because they loved her, but because she was that symbolic. She could confirm our last hope, that everything would one day improve.

Now she is dead. The last remnant of the eighties died with her. We have no more hope. There is no faith in the future anymore. The only faith to be mobilized dwells in an economic plan.

I will not end with a Whitney Houston link, but another from the eighties. They are still here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1TcDHrkQYg
she was an extraordinary talent but really no more hope. Let's keep some perspective.

i dunno why but i was more sad over winehouse than i was houston. maybe on some weird level i thought winehouse had some hope? houston's voice pretty much died years ago. she could never get it back after what she did to her body. also there was something about her (crack is wack) that made her seem like a huge asshole to me. amy winehouse seemed more tragic.

I'm the opposite. I'll attribute that to our difference in age.

I'm not your average good Christian, conservative person. The untimely death of this drug user means nothing to me. Whitney was no different than most Negros - other than having lots of money. However, when the Negro has excess money invariably they start taking drugs. The negro and Drugs go together like the horse and carriage, or love and marriage.

She was no better or different than any other drug user. I have no sympathy for her.

Probably because you played Bobby Brown to death.

The Palestinian people does not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel for our Arab unity. In reality today there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. Only for political and tactical reasons do we speak today about the existence of a Palestinian people, since Arab national interests demand that we posit the existence of a distinct "Palestinian people" to oppose Zionism. For tactical reasons, Jordan, which is a sovereign state with defined borders, cannot raise claims to Haifa and Jaffa, while as a Palestinian, I can undoubtedly demand Haifa, Jaffa, Beer-Sheva and Jerusalem. However, the moment we reclaim our right to all of Palestine, we will not wait even a minute to unite Palestine and Jordan.

Isn't Lady Gaga a clone of Madonna?
I mean a real live biological replicant of the original.

Perhaps we should subject Lady Gaga to a Voight-Kampff test.
You can never be too careful, after all.

Me too. I think the difference is that Winehouse was extremely talented and her career didn't drag out over 6+ albums and a decade of obvious drug abuse like Houston. Houston's heyday was long past and Winehouse's relevance was just beginning.

Whitney Houston was a swamp rat and the radio stations need to quit "honoring" her pathetic, wasted life.
