'the media' is not some giant homogenous organization controlled by corporate special interests with a republican agenda

dub's close, if not right.

most people get their news from cable news nowadays, and fox news has almost half the cable news audience, far more than any other channel. for all their talk of being antiestablishment and somehow not part of the mainstream media, they are the establishment and mainstream media, by any definition... most of the rest of the cable news audience is divided between the moderate and business-friendly CNN, and the openly liberal but unpopular MSNBC. MSNBC's audience is something like 1/3 or 1/4 fox's.

newspapers are a dying medium, and many of the most popular ones are owned by the same guy who owns fox news. broadcast news is fading too, and, like cable news, is dominated by a small number of channels owned by big corporations.

In Normal-land, politicians occasionally say or do something stupid instead of something wise.

In Republican-land, it's just the opposite.

Cable News Ratings: Top 30 Programs In Q2 2010

It's a sad, sad country.

Quote:
The Nielsen ratings for the second quarter of 2010 were released Tuesday, and yet again, Fox News is way ahead of with the competition, claiming the top 10 programs in cable news.

this only reflects the changing demographics of the country wrt emerging technology. cable news as a news medium is losing share to the internet. old people increasingly comprise the cable news viewership so it's no surprise that fox wins

But Online news is even more segmented into echo chambers than TV, Radio or Newspapers.

ETA: And how much of that "Internet" sourcing is through Twitter or Facebook?

His point is that people aren't stupid as hell because Fox is popular, but that Fox is popular because people are stupid as hell.

Now I just want to hear both sides like happy suggests. Only then will I have a clear and balanced picture of the news.

The truth is in the middle. This is one of the great truths of our times.

i think we need to find the middle between "the truth is in the middle" and "the truth is at some extreme" that is where the real truth is at

Well once we get the middle we can bounce the middle off either extreme and find new truth. Liberal-capitalism versus stateless anarchy? The truth is in the middle -> state-capitalism versus stateless anarchy? -> state-socialism versus stateless anarchy -> anarcho-syndicates -> FREEEEEEDOMM!

Could go the other way though of course, in which case accelerationism ftw.

you could start by ditching that stupid 'both sides' crap since any news story probably has more than two stakeholders
