Default Finally replacing my old smartphone.

I have an old iPhone 3G, and my wife has the 3GS. If I had known what the difference in performance would be, I would have spent the extra $100 and gotten a 3GS for myself too.

Lesson learned.

I think the replacement for me is going to be the Droind Razr Maxx. I really want the longer battery life, mainly because I like to use the GPS tracking when I'm hiking or biking, and even with a solar charger, my iPhone can't usually last even 2 hours.

I know quite a few here at TR have droids....what's the major downsides?
What service do you use for music downloads, or can I keep using iTunes (I hate the iTunes interface, though).

One issue I have had with my old DROID and my new Motorola is.....that they suck. They randomly loose programs and files....the "haptic feedback" comes on at random...among many other annoying things. Next phone for me will be an iPhone.

no way I'd go with iphone. I've been very happy with my Samsung, and will probably stick with Samsung for my next phone.

I also assume that the 'iPod mode' on my car stereo will work with pretty much any modern smartphone through the USB? It's not some stupid proprietary thing that Apple did to corner the market, I hope.

Works with my Motorola...so I would assume so.

If I remember right, the stereo is a Kenwood Bluetooth compatible. I think I know where the manual is, so I'll have to look it up.

So I've been reading comparisons and reviews, and it looks like no other phone even comes close to the 3300mAH battery of the razr Maxx. It pretty much has all the features I want, and it might even work as my bird field guide, and I won't need a tablet/ereader for that.

Wife is getting a samsung galaxy y - effectively for 15. her previous cheap-ass phone kept breaking, and for some reason this phone was on the list of alternative replacements for her at no extra charge. It may not be the top of the range, but it's a butt load better than her old phone. This then means that she finally gets to use the features of a smart phone so she has a bit of time to decide whether she gets an iPhone 5 later in the year.

Is a lesser version of the Droid Razr a good choice?

Well, I decided to go with iPhone 4S. The price difference just wasn't worth it, and I hate the Verizon plans (I went with Sprint). I am quite happy to be rid of AT&T.
