I made it back alive, and in possession of an LG23" LED screen. Maybe I should have spent another 80 and got the 3D version. Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan. Is this how people end up spending 1000 on a tv? Do they start out with the perfectly acceptable 300 one in mind and then suddenly find themselves scrambling up the feature ladder 50 at a time?

I also bought a new matching kettle (jug) and a toaster, a copy of Computer Music magazine, and a ream of copier paper.

No, I think the jug and toaster both come with matches.
Oliver apparently has a gas stove without an autolighter.

A) What's a kettle (jug)?

B) People still buy magazines?

Yeah matching toaster and kettle, parentheses kinda broke the sense there.

Yeah but is the jug part what you guys call it, or what you think we call it?

I've seen kettle, but I think tea pot more often. Never seen jug.

eta: I was going to google for images of jugs but reconsidered.

Lolling@lyfe right now. Fucking kettle lid pops up when it comes to the boil, or if I put it down too hard. Of all the kettles on the shelf I end up with the one with the dodgy lid.
Looking forward to watching my lovely burned toast fly across the kitchen in the morning. I'll synchronise them, video it, and then watch it on my new HD monitor.

Yes.

I've recently bought a 60 inch flat screen TV. At least I came away within 10% of what I'd budgeted.

Actually, now I think of it I spent about 50% more on the home recording set up than I'd envisaged, and most of that went on feature chasing the PC, which I'm totally glad of as it happens. I almost caught "benchmarking disease" though.

I took the monitor back and get the 3D version. Was originally at 199, 10 off special, another 10 in store so 179, sweet. Then I handed back my original receipt together with the 10 gift voucher they gave me when I bought the original monitor, and prepared to pay the 70 difference.
Then she asked me if I wanted to apply the gift voucher to this purchase. So I confusedly explained that it should be part of what was already being refunded, and she said "Yes, but we're not doing the gift voucher offer any more so you can keep this one". Another 10 off So for 60 more I got 3D, 2 HDMI sockets, 3Ms faster response times and an extra 50,000,000:1 contrast ratio.
Then I had bought a sandwich and a coffee and the girl serving said that if I had crisps it would cost 1p less. So she effectively gave me 1p to help myself to some crisps. I think I'll play cards tonight.
